And mention in the Book [the story of] Abraham. Indeed, he was a man of truth and a prophet. 41 He said to his father: 'O father, why worship that which can neither see nor hear, nor helps you in anything? 42 Father, I have been given some knowledge which has not come to you, so follow me: I shall guide you along a straight path. 43 "O my father! serve not Satan: for Satan is a rebel against (Allah) Most Gracious. 44 Father, I fear that some chastisement from the All-merciful will smite thee, so that thou becomest a friend to Satan. 45 He (the father) said: "Do you reject my gods, O Ibrahim (Abraham)? If you stop not (this), I will indeed stone you. So get away from me safely before I punish you." 46 Abraham said, "Peace be with you. I shall ask my Lord to forgive you; He has been gracious to me. 47 "And I shall remain separated from you and all that you worship other than Allah and shall worship my Lord; possibly, by worshipping my Lord, I will not be amongst the unfortunate.” 48 Then when he had renounced them and that which they worshipped beside Allah, We bestowed on him Is'haq and Ya'qub and each one We made a prophet! 49 and We gave them of Our mercy, and We appointed unto them a tongue of truthfulness, sublime. 50
