۞ Before this We gave Abraham his guidance. We knew him well. 51 When he said to his father and his people: "What are these images, to which you are devoted?" 52 They said:"We found our fathers worshipping them." 53 He said: assuredly ye, ye and your fathers, have been in error manifest. 54 They said, "Have you brought us the Truth, or are you one of those who jest?" 55 He said: "Nay, but your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth which He created and to that I bear witness before you. 56 By Allah, I will certainly outwit your idols as soon as you have turned your backs and gone' 57 Then he reduced them to fragments, all save the chief of them, that haply they might have recourse to it. 58 They said: who hath wrought this to our gods? verily he is of the wrong-doers. 59 They said: We heard a youth speak of them, who is called Ibrahim. 60 They said: Then bring him (hither) before the people's eyes that they may testify. 61 (On Abraham's arrival) they said: "Abraham, are you he who has done this to our gods?" 62 He answered: "Rather it was this supreme one who has done it. So ask them, if they can speak." 63 Thereupon they turned to their (inner) selves and said (to themselves): "Surely it is you who are the wrong-doers." 64 With their heads cast down they said, "Abraham, you know that idols do not speak. How then can you ask such a question?" 65 He said: Worship ye then instead of Allah that which cannot profit you at all, nor harm you? 66 Shame on you and on whatever you worship instead of God. Can you not understand?" 67 They said, “Burn him and help your Gods, if you want to.” 68 "Turn cold, O fire," We said, "and give safety to Abraham." 69 And they desired a war on him, but We made them the greatest losers. 70 But We delivered him and (his nephew) Lut (and directed them) to the land which We have blessed for the nations. 71 And We gave him Ishaq and Yaqoub, a son's son, and We made (them) all good. 72 We made them leaders who guided people by Our command. We revealed to them the doing of good, observance of prayer and the giving of alms and Us alone did they worship. 73 To Lot, We gave judgment and knowledge and saved him from the village that had been committing corrupt deeds; for they were an evil nation and were debauched. 74 And We took him into Our mercy; surely he was of the good. 75
