And [every time] the great ones among his people, who refused to acknowledge the truth and gave the lie to the announcement of a life to come - [simply] because We had granted them ease and plenty in [their] worldly life, and they had become corrupted by it [every time] they would say: "This [man] is nothing hut a mortal like yourselves, eating of what you eat, and drinking of what you drink: 33 If you obey a mortal like yourselves, you shall be lost. 34 "Does he promise that when ye die and become dust and bones, ye shall be brought forth (again)? 35 ۞ How far, how far, is that which you are promised. 36 "There is nothing but our life in this world! We shall die and we live! But we shall never be raised up again! 37 He is nothing but a man who has forged against Allah a lie, we will never believe him' 38 The Messenger said: "My Lord! Come to my help at their accusing me of lying." 39 He answered: "A short while, and they shall be repenting." 40 So the true Scream seized them – We therefore made them like rotten hay; so away with the unjust people! 41 After them We brought another generation into existence. 42 No nation can go before its term ends nor stay back. 43 Thereafter We sent Our apostles, successively. So oft as there came unto a community their apostle, they belied him, so We made them follow one another, and We made them bywords; so away with a people who believe not! 44 We then sent Moosa and his brother Haroon, with Our signs and a clear proof. 45 to Pharaoh and to his chiefs, but they behaved superciliously and they were haughty. 46 And they said: What! shall we believe in two mortals like ourselves while their people serve us? 47 So they rejected them and became of those who were destroyed. 48 And We gave Moses the Book, in order that they might be guided. 49 And We made the son of Maryam (Mary) and his mother as a sign, And We gave them refuge on high ground, a place of rest, security and flowing streams. 50
