And whatever calamity befalls you, is because of what your hands have earned – and there is a great deal He pardons! 30 and you cannot elude Him on earth, and you will have none to protect you from God [in the life to come,] and none to bring you succour. 31 And among His Signs are the ships, smooth-running through the ocean, (tall) as mountains. 32 If He wills, He can calm the winds so the ships remain still on the sea surface; indeed in this are signs for every greatly enduring, grateful person. 33 Or He may make them founder for what they have earned, and (even then) pardon most; 34 and that those who dispute concerning Our signs may know they have no asylum. 35 Whatever ye are given (here) is (but) a convenience of this life: but that which is with Allah is better and more lasting: (it is) for those who believe and put their trust in their Lord: 36 And those who avoid the major sins and indecencies and, when angered, forgive; 37 Those who hearken to their Lord, and establish regular Prayer; who (conduct) their affairs by mutual Consultation; who spend out of what We bestow on them for Sustenance; 38 And those who, when great wrong is done to them, defend themselves, 39 And the recompense of evil is punishment like it, but whoever forgives and amends, he shall have his reward from Allah; surely He does not love the unjust. 40 And whosoever vindicateth himself after wrong done to him; these! against them there is no way of blame. 41 Blame lies on those who oppress, and terrorise the land unjustly. For them there is painful punishment. 42 And whoever is patient and forgives - indeed, that is of the matters [requiring] determination. 43
