He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because the blind man came unto him. 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 Unto him thou attendest. 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 but as for him who came unto thee full of eagerness 8 and who has fear of God, 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 Exalted and purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 and angelic scribes. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 From what stuff hath He created him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 Then (as for) the way-- He has made it easy (for him) 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 Let the human being think about (how We produce) his food. 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 We make the grain grow out of it, 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 And olives and date-palms, 29 And thick gardens, 30 fruits, and grass. 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 on that Day some faces will be beaming, 38 laughing and joyous 39 but others will be gloomy 40 and covered by darkness. 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
