Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Have you heard the story of the overwhelming event (the Day of Judgment)? 1 [Some] faces, that Day, will be humbled, 2 toiling [under burdens of sin,] worn out [by fear,] 3 They will [enter to] burn in an intensely hot Fire. 4 They will be given drink from a boiling spring. 5 They shall have no food except bitter dry thorns 6 which will neither nourish nor satisfy hunger. 7 [And] some faces will on that Day shine with bliss, 8 With their effort [they are] satisfied 9 They will be in a lofty Garden 10 wherein they will not hear any vain talk. 11 There is a stream of running water in it; 12 Therein shall be couches elevated! 13 And goblets set at hand 14 and cushions arrayed in rows, 15 And carpets spread around. 16 Look they not at the camels, how they are created? 17 And how the heaven was raised up, 18 And at the mountains - how they are erected? 19 And the earth, how it was spread out? 20 So, [O Prophet] exhort them: your task is only to exhort, 21 You are not a warden over them, 22 However, those who turn away and disbelieve, 23 Then Allah will punish him with the greatest punishment. 24 Certainly, it is to Us that they will return. 25 And Ours their reckoning. 26
