AND, INDEED, We have created man out of sounding clay, out of dark-slime transmuted 26 And the jinn We created before from scorching fire. 27 And [mention, O Muhammad], when your Lord said to the angels, "I will create a human being out of clay from an altered black mud. 28 “Therefore when I have properly fashioned him and breathed into him a chosen noble soul from Myself, fall down before him in prostration.” 29 So the angels fell prostrate, all of them together 30 Save Iblis. He refused to be among the prostrate. 31 God asked Iblis, "What made you not join the others in prostration?" 32 He said: I am not one to prostrate myself unto a mortal whom Thou hast created out of potter's clay of black mud altered! 33 (Allah) said: "Then, get out from here, for verily, you are Rajim (an outcast or a cursed one)." [Tafsir At-Tabari] 34 Upon thee shall rest the curse, till the Day of Doom.' 35 He said: my Lord! respite me then till the Day whereon they will be raised up. 36 He said: Then lo! thou art of those reprieved 37 until the day of a known time." 38 Said he, 'My Lord, for Thy perverting me I shall deck all fair to them in the earth, and I shall pervert them, all together, 39 Except Thy servants from among them, the devoted ones. 40 He said: This is a right way with Me: 41 No power shall you have over (all) My creatures except those who fall into error and follow you, 42 And surely Hell is the promised place of them all: 43 It has seven gates; for every gate there shall be a separate party of them. 44
