The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
The Hour has drawn near, and the moon has been cleft asunder (the people of Makkah requested Prophet Muhammad SAW to show them a miracle, so he showed them the splitting of the moon). 1 But if they see a Sign, they turn away, and say, "This is (but) transient magic." 2 And they denied and followed their inclinations. But for every matter is a [time of] settlement. 3 And surely there hath come unto them news whereof the purport should deter, 4 which are full of wisdom; but the warnings do not help. 5 Therefore, (O Prophet,) turn away from them. The Day that the Caller will call (them) to a terrible affair, 6 with down-cast eyes they shall go forth from their graves, as though they were scattered locusts. 7 They shall be hurrying forth towards the caller, and the unbelievers (who had once denied this Day), will say: “This is a woeful Day.” 8 ۞ The people of Noah had denied before them, and had called Our votary a liar, and said: "He is possessed," and repulsed him. 9 Thereupon he prayed unto his Lord: verily am overcome, so vindicate me. 10 Thereupon We opened the gates of the sky for water to pour down, 11 and caused the earth to burst forth with springs, so that the waters met for a purpose pre-ordained: 12 And We bare him on a thing of planks and nails. 13 which sailed on under Our supervision: a reward for him who had been shown ingratitude. 14 And We left it as a sign – so is there one who would ponder? 15 How then were My punishment and My warnings! 16 Hence, indeed, We made this Qur'an easy to bear in mind: who, then, is willing to take it to heart? 17 The 'Ad had also disavowed. How was then My punishment and My commination! 18 Behold, We let loose upon them a raging storm wind on a day of bitter misfortune: 19 Extracting the people as if they were trunks of palm trees uprooted. 20 How terrible was Our torment and the result of (their disregard) of Our warning. 21 We have made it easy to learn lessons from the Quran: is there anyone who would receive admonition? 22
