The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Cloaked one, 1 arise and give warning! 2 and magnify the glory of your Lord, 3 thy robes purify 4 And banish all trepidation. 5 and bestow not favour in order to seek from others a greater return, 6 and persevere for your Lord's sake. 7 And when the trumpet is blown, 8 So that is a tough day. 9 For the disbelievers - not easy. 10 Leave Me Alone (to deal) with whom I created Alone (without any means, i.e. Al-Walid bin Al-Mughirah Al-Makhzumi)! 11 and to whom I have granted resources vast, 12 and children living in his presence, 13 To whom I made (life) smooth and comfortable! 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give yet more! 15 By no means! surely he offers opposition to Our communications. 16 I shall soon constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 Indeed he thought, and inwardly decided. 18 So accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 19 Yea, Woe to him; How he plotted!- 20 and then he looks [around for new arguments,] 21 Then he frowned and scowled; 22 Then he turned back and was big with pride, 23 Then he said: This is naught but enchantment, narrated (from others); 24 This is not but the word of a human being." 25 I will cast him into Hell-fire 26 And what do you know what Hell is? 27 It does not allow anyone to live, and neither does it leave anyone to die; 28 it scorches the skin; 29 Over it are nineteen (angels guarding). 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
