The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
36 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Spider (Al-Ankaboot) before The Heifer (Al-Baqarah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Woe to those who give less [than due], 1 Those who when they take the measure from mankind demand it full, 2 And who, when they measure unto them or weigh for them, diminish. 3 Think they not that they will be resurrected (for reckoning), 4 on a Great Day, 5 the Day when people will stand before the Lord of the Worlds? 6 Indeed the ledger of the wicked will be in (the lowest depths) Sijjin. 7 And what can make you know what is sijjeen? 8 It is a (repository of) distinctly written record. 9 Woe, then, to those that give the lie, 10 Those that deny the Day of Judgment. 11 And none deny it except every sinful transgressor. 12 When Our verses are recited to him, he says, "Legends of the former peoples." 13 Nay, but their hearts are corroded by all [the evil] that they were wont to do! 14 Yes indeed – they will be deprived of seeing their Lord on that day. 15 They will suffer the heat of fire 16 They will then be told: "This is what you had denied." 17 But, the Book of the righteous is in the 'Illiyoon. 18 What could let you know what the 'Illiyoon is! 19 (It is) a marked Book, 20 witnessed by those who are near (to Allah). 21 Indeed the virtuous are in serenity. 22 seated on couches and gazing around in wonder. 23 You will recognise in their faces the brightness of delight. 24 They will be served the choicest wine, sealed 25 Its seal is upon musk; and for this should those who crave be eager. 26 It (that wine) will be mixed with Tasnim. 27 A spring whereof drink those nearest to Allah. 28 BEHOLD, those who have abandoned themselves to sin are wont to laugh at such as have attained to faith 29 when them passed them by winking at one another, 30 And when they returned to their own people, they would return jesting; 31 On seeing the believers, they would say, "These people have gone astray". 32 But they had not been sent as keepers over them! 33 So today the believers are laughing at the unbelievers, 34 Reclining on couches, looking on. 35 Will not the Unbelievers have been paid back for what they did? 36
