Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By oath of the (particular) dawn. 1 And the Ten Nights, 2 by the odd and even (8th and 9th Dhil-hajj) 3 And the night when it departs. 4 Is there in that an oath for a mindful man? 5 Seest thou not how thy Lord dealt with the 'Ad (people),- 6 of Iram, known for their lofty columns, 7 the like of which was never created in the land, 8 and Thamood, who hollowed the rocks in the valley, 9 And with Firaun, who used to crucify. 10 [All of] whom oppressed within the lands 11 spreading in them much corruption? 12 So your Lord poured on them different kinds of severe torment. 13 Lo! thy Lord is ever watchful. 14 As for the human being, when his Lord tests him, honors him, and grants him bounty, he says, "God has honored me". 15 And when He proveth him, and so stinteth unto him his provision, he saith: 'my Lord hath despised me. 16 By no means! But ye honour not the orphan, 17 and you do not urge one another to feed the needy, 18 Why do you take away the inheritance of others indiscriminately 19 and you have a love of wealth which can never be satisfied. 20 No! When the earth has been leveled - pounded and crushed - 21 and when your Lord appears with rows upon rows of angels, 22 and Gehenna is brought out, upon that day man will remember; and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He will say, "Oh, I wish I had sent ahead [some good] for my life." 24 Wherefore on that Day none shall torment with His torment. 25 And none will bind as He will bind. 26 [But unto the righteous God will say,] "O thou human being that hast attained to inner peace! 27 Return unto thine Lord well pleased and well-pleasing. 28 "Enter then among My votaries, 29 Enter thou My Garden! 30
