Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ I do not (need to) swear by this town (Mecca) 1 and you are a lodger in this country. 2 And the begetter and that which he begat, 3 We have certainly created man into hardship. 4 Does man think that no one will ever have power over him? 5 He says: “I have squandered enormous wealth.” 6 What, does he think none has seen him? 7 Have We not made for him a pair of eyes? 8 And a tongue and two lips? 9 And shown him the two ways (good and evil)? 10 Yet, he has not entered into Aqaba 11 And what will make you know the path that is steep? 12 (It is) the setting free of a slave, 13 Or the feeding on a day of hunger. 14 of an orphaned relative 15 and downtrodden destitute person, (so that he would be of) 16 Then he is of those who believe and charge one another to show patience, and charge one another to show compassion. 17 These are the people of the right hand. 18 And those who disbelieve in Our signs, they are the Companions of the Left Hand; 19 Fire will be an awning over them. 20
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
