The Romans (Al-Room)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ Alif Lam Mim. 1 The Romans have been defeated. 2 In the nearest land. But they, after their defeat, will overcome. 3 Within ten years - Allah's is the command in the former case and in the latter - and in that day believers will rejoice 4 In Allah's help to victory. He helpeth to victory whom He will. He is the Mighty, the Merciful. 5 This is Allah's promise and He does not go back on His promise. But most people do not know. 6 People simply know the outward aspect of the worldly life but are utterly heedless of the Hereafter. 7 Do they not think deeply (in their ownselves) about themselves (how Allah created them from nothing, and similarly He will resurrect them)? Allah has created not the heavens and the earth, and all that is between them, except with truth and for an appointed term. And indeed many of mankind deny the Meeting with their Lord. [See Tafsir At-Tabari, Part 21, Page 24]. 8 And did they not travel in the land to see what sort of fate befell those before them? They were stronger than them, and they cultivated the land and inhabited it more than them, and their Noble Messengers came to them with clear proofs; so it did not befit Allah’s Majesty to oppress them, but it was they who used to wrong themselves. 9 And once again: evil is bound to be the end of those who do evil by giving the lie to God's messages and deriding them. 10
