He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 and fearfully, 9 you pay him no heed. 10 No indeed, this is a Reminder; 11 So whoso wills may give heed to it. 12 (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). 13 uplifted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 Accursed be man! How stubbornly he denies the Truth. 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 Then eased the way for him. 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 Nay, but [man] has never yet fulfilled what He has enjoined upon him! 23 Then let mankind look at his food - 24 That We watered it in abundance. 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 And cause the grain to grow therein 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 and olives and palms, 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 and fruits and fodder 31 as provision for you and for your cattle to enjoy. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother 34 And his mother and his father, 35 his consort, his sons, 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 Dust shall cover them 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
