The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ WHEN THAT which must come to pass [at last] comes to pass, 1 There is about its happening no lie. 2 Abasing exalting. 3 When the earth will be shaken with a terrible shake. 4 And the mountains will be crushed, blown to bits. 5 becoming scattered dust, 6 And you will become divided into three categories. 7 The People on the Right: and how fortunate will be the People on the Right! 8 And the companions of the left - what are the companions of the left? 9 And those who surpassed have indeed excelled. 10 Those are they who will be brought nigh 11 In the Gardens of Pleasure, 12 A multitude from the ancients. 13 And a few from the later generations. 14 [They will be seated] on gold-encrusted thrones of happiness, 15 reclining upon them, facing one another [in love]. 16 immortal youths shall go about them 17 With cups, and jugs, and a glass from the flowing wine, 18 Wherefrom they will get neither any aching of the head, nor any intoxication. 19 And with fruit from that which they choose. 20 Bird meats that they relish, 21 They will have maidens with large, lovely black and white eyes, 22 The like of the hidden pearls: 23 a recompense for that they laboured. 24 They shall not hear therein vain or sinful discourse, 25 but only the saying: 'Peace, Peace' 26 And the fellows on the right hand; how be happy shall the fellows on the right hand be! 27 [They, too, will find themselves] amidst fruit laden lote-trees, 28 And acacia covered with heaps of bloom, 29 And a shade ever-spread. 30 and gushing water, 31 And fruit, abundant [and varied], 32 unfailing, unforbidden, 33 on raised couches. 34 We have created maidens perfectly 35 and shall have made them virgins, 36 chastely amorous, 37 All this will be for the People on the Right; 38
