Thamood cried lies to the Envoys 141 Their brother Salih said to them: 'Will you not be cautious? 142 I am for you a faithful Messenger, 143 So fear Allah, and obey me. 144 "And no reward whatever do I ask of you for it: my reward rests with none but the Sustainer of all the worlds. 145 Will you be left secure in this, 146 amidst gardens and springs 147 And green crops (fields etc.) and date-palms with soft spadix. 148 hewing out houses in the mountains and taking pride in your skill? 149 "But fear Allah and obey me; 150 Do not obey the order of the wasteful, 151 Who corrupt the land and do not reform it." 152 They said, "You are only bewitched and insane. 153 Thou art but a mortal like us. So bring some token if thou art of the truthful. 154 He said: (Behold) this she-camel. She hath the right to drink (at the well), and ye have the right to drink, (each) on an appointed day. 155 and do not touch her with malice so that there seize you the chastisement of a dreadful day.' 156 Yet they hamstrung her, and then they became regretful: 157 So the punishment overtook them. Most surely there is a sign in this, but most of them do not believe. 158 Verily Your Lord is Immensely Mighty, Most Compassionate. 159
