In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou enwrapped! 1 worship (God) for a few hours at night. 2 A half thereof, or abate a little thereof, 3 or a little more; and with recitation, recite the Koran. 4 We are about to reveal to you a mighty word. 5 surely the first part of the night is heavier in tread, more upright in speech, 6 During the day, you are preoccupied with many activities. 7 And remember the Name of thy Lord, and devote thyself unto Him very devoutly. 8 Lord of the East and Lord of the West – there is no God except Him, therefore make Him your sole Trustee of affairs. 9 And bear patiently the vain things they utter, and gracefully forsake them. 10 Leave it to Me to deal with the deniers, who live a life of comfort, and bear with them a little longer. 11 Surely with Us are heavy fetters and a flaming fire, 12 And a food that chokes, and a painful torment. 13 On a Day whereon the earth and the mountains shall quake, and the mountains shall become a sand-heap poured forth. 14 We have sent to you, (O men!) a messenger, to be a witness concerning you, even as We sent a messenger to Pharaoh. 15 But Firon disobeyed the apostle, so We laid on him a violent hold. 16 Then how can you avoid the punishment, if you disbelieve, on a Day that will make the children grey-headed (i.e. the Day of Resurrection)? 17 The Day when the heavens will be rent asunder and God's promise shall be fulfilled. 18 Surely this is a reminder, then let him, who will take the way to his Lord. 19
