Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Have you received the news of the Enveloper? 1 Some faces, that Day, will be humiliated (in the Hell-fire, i.e. the faces of all disbelievers, Jews and Christians, etc.). 2 Labouring, wearied out, 3 they shall enter a burning Fire 4 Given water from the boiling spring to drink. 5 No food for them save the bitterness of dry thorns, 6 which neither sustains, nor satisfy hunger. 7 In that day other faces will be calm, 8 With their endeavour well pleased. 9 In a high Garden 10 Where they hear no idle speech, 11 Therein will be a flowing spring, 12 Therein will be Thrones (of dignity), raised on high, 13 Goblets placed (ready), 14 cushions ranged, 15 and carpets outspread. 16 What, do they not reflect upon how the camel was created? 17 And how the heaven was raised up, 18 and on the mountains, how they are firmly set up, 19 and how the earth is spread out? 20 And so, [O Prophet,] exhort them; thy task is only to exhort: 21 You do not have full control over them. 22 Other than him who turns his back and denies, 23 God shall chastise him with the greatest chastisement. 24 For to Us will be their return; 25 Then verily, for Us will be their reckoning. 26
