The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the night when it envelopeth, 1 And the day when it shines in all its glory, 2 And the creating of the male and the female, 3 That your endeavour is for different ends. 4 We shall facilitate the path to bliss 5 and believes in the finest, 6 for him shall We make easy the path towards [ultimate] ease. 7 But as for him who is niggardly, and thinks that he is self-sufficient, 8 and calls the ultimate good a lie 9 We shall surely ease him to the Hardship; 10 nor will his wealth profit him when he falls [into the pit]. 11 Lo! Ours it is (to give) the guidance 12 and to Us belong the Last and the First. 13 So I have warned you of a Fire which is blazing. 14 No one will burn in it but the most wretched, 15 who have rejected the (Truth) and have turned away from it. 16 Far removed from it will be the righteous 17 Those who spend their wealth for increase in self-purification, 18 And have in their minds no favour from anyone for which a reward is expected in return, 19 but only to seek the good pleasure of his Lord Most High. 20 surely, he shall be satisfied. 21
