The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
The Hour of Doom is drawing near and the moon is rent asunder. 1 But if they see a sign they turn away, and say: "This is the same old lie continuing," 2 And they denied and followed their own desires, whereas each matter has been decided! 3 And assuredly there hath come unto them tidings wherein is a deterrent. 4 profound in wisdom, but all warnings have been of no avail: 5 So turn thou away from them. Upon the day when the Caller shall call unto a horrible thing, 6 They will come out from the graves with eyes lowered, as if they were spread locusts. 7 Hastening to the inviter. The unbelievers shall say: This is a hard day. 8 ۞ The people of Noah cried lies before them; they cried lies to Our servant, and said, 'A man possessed!' And he was rejected. 9 So he prayed to his Lord: "I am helpless, deliver me." 10 Thereupon We opened the gates of the sky for water to pour down, 11 And We caused the earth to gush forth with springs. So the waters (of the heaven and the earth) met for a matter predestined. 12 But We bore him on a (vessel made) of planks and oakum, 13 that ran on under Our Eyes, a recompense for him because he had been disbelieved. 14 And We left it as a sign – so is there one who would ponder? 15 Then see how (dreadful) was My punishment after My warnings! 16 And We have indeed made the Qur'an easy to understand and remember: then is there any that will receive admonition? 17 'Ad (people) belied (their Prophet, Hud), then how (terrible) was My Torment and My Warnings? 18 Surely We sent on them a tornado in a day of bitter ill-luck 19 Which snatched away men as though they were palm trees pulled out by the roots. 20 How (great) was then My punishment and My warning! 21 And We have certainly made the Qur'an easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember? 22
