The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O thou enveloped! 1 Arise, and warn, 2 And thy Lord do thou magnify! 3 cleanse your clothes, 4 And all defilement shun! 5 And bestow not favour that thou mayest receive more. 6 But, for thy Lord's (Cause), be patient and constant! 7 So when the Trumpet will be blown. 8 that very Day shall be a day of anguish, 9 For the disbelievers - not easy. 10 Let Me alone with him whom I created lonely. 11 And then granted him resources in abundance. 12 And sons present by his side. 13 And made life smooth and comfortable for him! 14 And yet he desires that I should add more! 15 By no means! Verily he hath been unto Our signs a foe. 16 Anon I shall afflict him with a fearful woe. 17 For lo! he did consider; then he planned - 18 Ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 19 Let him be destroyed. How he calculated! 20 Then he considered [again]; 21 Then he frowned and scowled, 22 Then turned he back, and grew stiff-necked. 23 And said, “This is nothing but magic learnt from earlier men.” 24 This is not but the word of a human being." 25 I shall surely roast him in Sakar; 26 And what could make thee conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It neither leaves, nor spares. 28 it scorches (even) the skin. 29 over it are nineteen. 30 And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. 31
