The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ OF WHAT ARE they asking one another? 1 Concerning the Great News, 2 About which they are in disagreement. 3 Surely yes, they will soon come to know! 4 again, no indeed; soon will they come to know. 5 Have We not made the earth a resting place? 6 and the mountains as pegs? 7 and created you in pairs (as men and women), 8 And made sleep for you to rest, 9 and We appointed night for a garment, 10 and made the day [a symbol of] life. 11 And We have built above you seven strong (heavens), 12 And We made a shining lamp, 13 and sent down abundant water from the clouds 14 That We may produce from it grain and vegetation, 15 and thick gardens grow? 16 Verily, the Day of Decision is a fixed time, 17 the Day that the Horn is blown, and you shall come in crowds 18 And the heaven is opened and will become gateways 19 and the mountains shall be made to vanish, as if they had been a mirage. 20 Surely hell lies in wait, 21 a goal for all who are wont to transgress the bounds of what is right! 22 Where they will remain for aeons, 23 tasting therein neither coolness nor any drink 24 save boiling water and pus 25 as a fitting recompense for their deeds. 26 They were those who did not expect a reckoning, 27 having given the lie to Our messages one and all: 28 And everything We have recorded in a book. 29 "So taste [the penalty], and never will We increase you except in torment." 30
