Al-Balad

The Town (Al-Balad)

20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)

In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful

۞ I swear by yonder city 1 this land in which thou art free to dwell 2 by the begetter, and that he begot, 3 Verily We have created man into toil and hardship. 4 Does he think that never will anyone overcome him? 5 He says: "I have wasted a great deal of wealth." 6 What, does he think none has seen him? 7 Did We not give him two eyes, 8 and a tongue, and two lips, 9 and shown him the two paths? 10 But he hath made no haste on the path that is steep. 11 How will you comprehend what the Steep ascent is? -- 12 It is freeing the neck, 13 Or the giving of food in a day of hunger 14 To an orphan near of kin. 15 Or to a Miskin (poor) afflicted with misery. 16 the believers who cooperate with others in patience (steadfastness) and kindness. 17 These are the people of the right hand. 18 But those who disbelieve Our revelations, their place will be on the left hand. 19 On them will be Fire vaulted over (all round). 20

True are the words of God the Almighty.
