The Night (Al-Layl)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the night, when it envelops, 1 And the day when it shines in brightness, 2 And [by] He who created the male and female, 3 you strive in various ways. 4 Yet he who gives to others and has fear, 5 and confirms the reward most fair, 6 We shall ease the way of fortune for him. 7 But as for him who hoardeth and deemeth himself independent, 8 And denies the best [reward], 9 Surely We will ease his way unto adversity. 10 And his wealth will not avail him when he perishes. 11 Surely, it is for Us to provide guidance -- 12 And indeed, to Us belongs the Hereafter and the first [life]. 13 I have now warned you of the Blazing Fire, 14 in which no one will suffer forever except the wicked ones 15 even he who cried lies, and turned away; 16 and from which the cautious shall be distanced. 17 Who giveth his wealth that he may grow (in goodness). 18 And have in their minds no favour from anyone for which a reward is expected in return, 19 But only seeking the countenance of his Lord, Most High. 20 and the reward (of their Lord) will certainly make them happy. 21
