The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ WHEN THAT which must come to pass [at last] comes to pass, 1 no soul will deny its coming. 2 Abasing (some), exalting (others); 3 This will happen when the earth is shaken, shaken 4 And the mountains are broken down, crumbling 5 so that they become as scattered dust 6 and you shall be three bands -- 7 Companions of the Right, what are the Companions of the Right? 8 Companions of the Left, what are the Companions of the Left? 9 As for the Foremost, they will be the foremost! 10 These are they who are drawn nigh (to Allah), 11 in the Gardens of Delight 12 A number of people from those of old, 13 And a few from those of later times. 14 on lavish couches 15 reclining upon them, facing one another [in love]. 16 There shall go round unto them youths ever-young. 17 with goblets, and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 No after-ache will they receive therefrom, nor will they suffer intoxication: 19 And such fruits as they fancy, 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire to eat; 21 And (there will be) Companions with beautiful, big, and lustrous eyes,- 22 as the likeness of hidden pearls, 23 The reward for what they did. 24 No Laghw (dirty, false, evil vain talk) will they hear therein, nor any sinful speech (like backbiting, etc.). 25 except each other's greetings of, "Peace be with you". 26 And those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 27 (They will be) among Lote-trees without thorns, 28 And banana-trees (with fruits), one above another. 29 And spreading shade, 30 And water everflowing. 31 and abundant fruits, 32 never-ending and unrestricted, 33 And on Thrones (of Dignity), raised high. 34 We have formed them in a distinctive fashion, 35 and made them virgins, 36 full of love, well-matched 37 For the fellows on the right hand. 38
