He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because there came to him the blind man. 2 And what should teach thee? Perchance he would cleanse him, 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 So you are after him! 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 and fearfully, 9 of him you were unmindful. 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 It is set down on honoured pages, 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 By the hands of scribes. 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 Perish Man! How unthankful he is! 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 Of a small seed; He created him, then He made him according to a measure, 19 Then maketh the way easy for him, 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 [how it is] that We pour down water, pouring it down abundantly; 25 and let the earth to break open 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 Orchards thick with trees, 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 Man will fly from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 wife and sons, 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 laughing, joyous; 39 some faces on that day shall be dusty 40 Darkness shall cover them. 41 These will be the faces of the sinful disbelievers. 42
