The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Praise be to God who has sent down to His servant -- the Book, which is free from any ambiguity 1 [a divine writ] unerringly straight, meant to warn [the godless] of a severe punishment from Him, and to give unto the believers who do good works the glad tiding that theirs shall be a goodly reward 2 wherein they will remain [in a state of bliss] forever. 3 And to warn those who say: Allah hath chosen a son, 4 No knowledge whatever have they of Him, and neither had their forefathers: dreadful - is this saying that comes out of their mouths, [and] nothing but falsehood do they utter! 5 But wouldst thou, perhaps, torment thyself to death with grief over them if they are not willing to believe in this message? 6 Verily We have made whatsoever is on the earth as an adornment thereof, that We may prove them - which of them is best in work. 7 We will surely reduce all that is on it to barren dust. 8 Or deemest thou that the People of the Cave and the Inscription are a wonder among Our portents? 9 When the young men took refuge in the Cave – then said, “Our Lord! Give us mercy from Yourself, and arrange guidance for us in our affair.” 10 So We cast [a cover of sleep] over their ears within the cave for a number of years. 11 Then We roused them to find out which of the party had the correct account of the duration of their sleep in the cave. 12
