The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O, you, wrapped in your cloak, 1 Arise and warn! 2 Proclaim the glory of your Lord; 3 And your garments purify! 4 And keep away from Ar-Rujz (the idols)! 5 And bestow not favors that you may receive again with increase, 6 and for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 When the trumpet is sounded,. 8 It will be a day of distress, 9 For the disbelievers - not easy. 10 Leave Me with him whom I alone have created, 11 And then granted him resources in abundance. 12 And children present [with him] 13 and for whom I have smoothed the way (to power and riches), 14 and who still greedily desires that I should bestow upon him more. 15 By no means; he is stubbornly opposed to Our Signs. 16 I shall soon constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 For lo! he did consider; then he planned - 18 Ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 19 Again, may he be cursed how he plotted; 20 May he be condemned again for his schemes! He looked around, 21 Then frowned and grimaced. 22 then he retreated and grew proud 23 and says, "All this is mere spellbinding eloquence handed down [from olden times]! 24 Naught is this but the word of Man. 25 Anon shall I roast him into the Scorching Fire. 26 And what have you understood, what hell is! 27 It spares not (any sinner), nor does it leave (anything unburnt)! 28 It scorches the mortal. 29 over it are nineteen. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire. We have specified their number only as a trial for those who are bent on denying the truth, so that those who were given the Book might gain in certainty, and those who believe might increase in faith -- and so that neither those who have been given the Scripture nor the believers might have any doubts, and that those sick at heart and those who deny the truth might ask, "What does God mean by this parable?" In this way, God lets go astray whom He wills, and guides whom He wills. And none knows the forces of your Lord but He. This is but a Reminder for man. 31
