(The tribe of) A'ad denied the messengers (of Allah). 123 When their brother Hud said to them: "Will you not fear Allah and obey Him? 124 I am for you an honest Messenger. 125 Therefore guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me: 126 And I do not ask you any reward for it; surely my reward is only with the Lord of the worlds 127 "Will you, in your wanton folly, build [idolatrous] altars on every height, 128 “And prefer strong palaces, that perhaps you may live for ever?” 129 When you assault, you assault like tyrants. 130 So fear Allah, and obey me. 131 And fear He who provided you with that which you know, 132 Provided you with grazing livestock and children 133 and gardens, and springs: 134 “Indeed I fear upon you the punishment of a Great Day.” 135 They said, "Whether you preach to us or not, 136 This is not but the custom of the former peoples, 137 and we shall never be punished' 138 So they gave him the lie, then We destroyed them. Most surely there is a sign in this, but most of them do not believe. 139 And verily thy Lord? He is the Mighty, the Merciful. 140
