He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 or receive some (Quranic) advice which would benefit him. 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 So you are after him! 6 And you have nothing to lose if he does not become pure. 7 But he who comes to you running, 8 and fears (Allah), 9 you ignore him. 10 These verses are a reminder 11 Let him who will, pay heed to it. 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 most exalted and purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and obedient. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 From what did He create him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Let Man consider his nourishment. 24 We poured down rain abundantly, 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 to yield therein corn, 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 And olives and date palms, 29 And enclosed gardens luxuriant. 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 When the trumpet sounds, 33 Man will fly from his brother, 34 his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 On that day faces will be bright as dawn, 38 Laughing and full of joy, 39 And many a face will be covered with dust on that day. 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 these, these will be the ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity! 42
