The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the star when it setteth. 1 Your companion does not err, nor does he go astray; 2 He does not speak out of his own desires. 3 It is but a divine revelation, which is revealed to him. 4 He has been taught by the Extremely Powerful. 5 Lord of power and wisdom. So he acquired poise and balance, 6 being on the higher horizon, 7 Then he approached and descended 8 two bows' length away, or nearer, 9 Then he revealed to Allah's servant whatever he had to reveal. 10 The (Prophet's) heart lied not (in seeing) what he (Muhammad SAW) saw. 11 Are you, then, going to contend with him regarding what he sees with his eyes? 12 For indeed he saw him at a second descent, 13 Near the lote-tree of the last boundary. 14 Nigh unto which is the Garden of Abode. 15 When that which shroudeth did enshroud the lote-tree, 16 Neither did sight falter nor exceed the bounds. 17 Verily he saw one of the greater revelations of his Lord. 18 (Can anything as such be considered true) of al-Lat, al-Uzza, 19 and, another, the third manat? 20 What! unto you the males and unto Him the females? 21 That were indeed an unjust division. 22 They are naught but names which you have named, you and your fathers; Allah has not sent for them any authority. They follow naught but conjecture and the low desires which (their) souls incline to; and certainly the guidance has come to them from their Lord. 23 Or shall man have what he wishes? 24 To Allah belong both the Next World and the present. 25
