Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Has the story reached thee of the overwhelming (Event)? 1 On that Day, there shall be downcast faces, 2 labouring, weary, 3 They will [enter to] burn in an intensely hot Fire. 4 Drinking from a boiling spring, 5 They shall have no food but of thorns, 6 Which neither nourishes nor avails against hunger. 7 [And] some faces will on that Day shine with bliss, 8 well pleased with the result of their striving, 9 In a lofty garden, 10 Where they hear no idle speech, 11 Wherein is a gushing spring, 12 Therein will be Thrones (of dignity), raised on high, 13 And drinking-cups ready placed, 14 cushions ranged, 15 And rich carpets (all) spread out. 16 Do they not then ponder how the clouds were formed; 17 And at the sky, how it is raised aloft? 18 and on the mountains, how they are firmly set up, 19 And at the earth, how it is spread out? 20 Remind them; you are surely a reminder. 21 thou canst not compel them [to believe]. 22 However, he who turns away and disbelieves - 23 So Allah will mete out to him the greatest punishment. 24 To Us is surely their returning; 25 and verily, It is for Us to call them to account. 26
