Mary (Maryam)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Kaf Ha Ya 'Ayn Sad. 1 AN ACCOUNT of the grace which thy Sustainer bestowed upon His servant Zachariah: 2 When he called out his Lord (Allah) a call in secret, 3 He said: "Lord! My bones have grown feeble and my head is glistening with age; yet, never have my prayers to You, my Lord, been unfruitful. 4 "Now, behold, I am afraid of [what] my kinsfolk [will do] after I am gone, for my wife has always been barren. Bestow, then, upon me, out of Thy grace, the gift of a successor 5 Who should inherit me and inherit from the children of Yaqoub, and make him, my Lord, one in whom Thou art well pleased. 6 "O Zachariah," (it was) said, "We give you good news of a son by name of John.' To none have We attributed the name before." 7 "How can I have a son, O Lord" he said, "when my wife is barren and I am old and decrepit?" 8 He said: "So (it will be). Your Lord says; It is easy for Me. Certainly I have created you before, when you had been nothing!" 9 [Zakariya (Zachariah)] said: "My Lord! Appoint for me a sign." He said: "Your sign is that you shall not speak unto mankind for three nights, though having no bodily defect." 10 So he came forth unto his people from the Sanctuary, then he made signal to them, 'Give you glory at dawn and evening.' 11 (To his son came the command): "O Yahya! take hold of the Book with might": and We gave him Wisdom even as a youth, 12 and tenderness [of heart] and purity. He was pious, 13 honoring his parents, being neither arrogant nor rebellious. 14 And peace on him on the day he was born, and on the day he dies, and on the day he is raised to life 15
