The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By oath of those who harshly pull out the soul of the disbeliever. 1 and those that draw out violently, 2 And [by] those who glide [as if] swimming 3 And by those that press forward as in a race (i.e. the angels or stars or the horses, etc.). 4 Then those who regulate the affair. 5 [HENCE, think of] the Day when a violent convulsion will convulse [the world,] 6 What must happen afterwards shall follow it. 7 hearts upon that day shall be athrob 8 Their eyes cast down. 9 The disbelievers say, "Will we really return to our former state?" 10 What, when we are bones old and wasted?' 11 They shall say, 'That then were a losing return!' 12 Surely it will need but one shout, 13 and behold! They will all come out in the open. 14 Has the story of Moses reached thee? 15 When his Lord called to him in the holy valley, Towa: 16 Saying: go thou unto Fir'awn; verily he hath waxen exorbitant. 17 And say to him: "Would you purify yourself (from the sin of disbelief by becoming a believer)", 18 Then I shall guide thee unto thy Lord so that thou shalt fear. 19 And thereupon he [went to Pharaoh and] made him aware of the great wonder [of God's grace]. 20 but he denied it and refused [the faith]. 21 and then he turned back to have recourse to his craftiness, 22 and gathered his people together 23 Saying: "I am alone your lord, the highest of them all." 24 but God seized him and meted out to him the chastisement of both the next world and the present: 25 Verily herein is lesson for him who feareth. 26
