The Comet (Al-Taareq)
17 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Town (Al-Balad) before The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
CONSIDER the heavens and that which comes in the night! 1 Do you know what al-tariq is? 2 It is the star that shines with a piercing brightness -- 3 There is no living being but there is a protector over it. 4 So let man look - from what is he created. 5 Created from a gushing fluid. 6 that issues from between the loins and the ribs. 7 Indeed Allah is Able to return him. 8 The Day when secrets will be put on trial, 9 he will have no power, nor anyone to help him. 10 By the heaven which returneth, 11 And the earth which splitteth (with the growth of trees and plants) 12 Behold this is the Word that distinguishes (Good from Evil): 13 It is not a thing for amusement. 14 Behold, they [who refuse to accept it] devise many a false argument [to disprove its truth]; 15 and I too am devising a guile. 16 So respite thou the infidels - respite them gently, 17
