Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
26 verses, revealed in Mecca after Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat) before The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Has there come to you the narration of the overwhelming (i.e. the Day of Resurrection); 1 (Some) faces on that day shall be downcast, 2 Labouring (hard in the worldly life by worshipping others besides Allah), weary (in the Hereafter with humility and disgrace). 3 they shall enter a burning Fire 4 They will be given to drink from a boiling spring, 5 they shall have no food but thorns, 6 which gives no strength and neither stills hunger. 7 Many a face will be in serenity on that day. 8 Glad for their effort past, 9 They will be in a lofty Garden 10 hearing there no babble; 11 Therein shall be a spring running! 12 In which are high thrones. 13 Goblets set, 14 Cushions arranged, 15 And linen spread out. 16 What, do they not consider how the camel was created, 17 how heaven was lifted up, 18 And at the mountains, how they are rooted and fixed firm? 19 And the earth how it has been spread out? 20 So remind, [O Muhammad]; you are only a reminder. 21 you are not their keeper. 22 But if any turn away and reject Allah,- 23 Him Allah shall torment with the greatest torment. 24 for behold, unto Us will be their return, 25 Ours is surely then to reckon with them. 26
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
