Aaron had said to them before: 'My nation, you have been tempted by it. Your Lord is the Merciful. Follow me and obey my order' 90 They said: "We will not stop worshipping it (i.e. the calf), until Musa (Moses) returns to us." 91 Moses said to Aaron, "What prevented you, when you saw that they had gone astray, 92 From following me? Then have you disobeyed my order?" 93 'Son of my mother' he replied, 'Do not seize my beard nor my head. I was afraid that you might say: "You have divided the Children of Israel and did not uphold my word." 94 He said: What was then your object, O Samiri? 95 He said, "I saw what they did not see, so I took a handful [of dust] from the track of the messenger and threw it, and thus did my soul entice me." 96 (Moses) said: "Go hence! All your life you are (cursed) to say: 'Do not touch me; and a threat hangs over you which you will not be able to escape. Look at your god to whom you are so attached: We shall verily burn it, and disperse its ashes into the sea. 97 Your God is only Allah, the One other than whom there is no god. He comprehendeth everything in knowledge. 98 And so We narrate to you the stories of the past, and We have given you a remembrance from Us. 99 Whoever turns away from it - then indeed, he will bear on the Day of Resurrection a burden, 100 which they shall bear forever. It will be a grievous burden for them on the Day of Judgement, 101 The day when the Trumpet is blown. On that day we assemble the guilty white-eyed (with terror), 102 Whispering to one another: "You have tarried but ten days." 103 We are most knowing of what they say when the best of them in manner will say, "You remained not but one day." 104
