And [every time] the great ones among his people, who refused to acknowledge the truth and gave the lie to the announcement of a life to come - [simply] because We had granted them ease and plenty in [their] worldly life, and they had become corrupted by it [every time] they would say: "This [man] is nothing hut a mortal like yourselves, eating of what you eat, and drinking of what you drink: 33 So if you follow a man like yourself you will certainly be doomed. 34 "Does he promise you that when you have died and have become dust and bones, you shall come out alive (resurrected)? 35 ۞ Far-fetched, far-fetched indeed is what you are promised! 36 “There is nothing except our life of this world, we die and we live, and we are not to be raised.” 37 “He is just a man who has fabricated a lie against Allah, and we are not going to believe him.” 38 He said: O my Lord! help me against their calling me a liar. 39 Said Allah, “They will soon wake up at morn, regretting.” 40 So the punishment overtook them in justice, and We made them as rubbish; so away with the unjust people. 41 Then We raised after them other generations. 42 No people can hasten on their doom nor can they postpone (it). 43 Then We sent Our apostles one after the other. Every time an apostle came to a people they denied him. So We made one follow the other (to its doom), and turned them into bygone tales. Cursed be the people who do not believe! 44 Then We sent Moses and his brother Aaron with Our Signs and a clear authority 45 To Firon and his chiefs, but they behaved haughtily and they were an insolent people. 46 They said: "Shall we believe in two men like ourselves? And their people are subject to us!" 47 So they rejected them both, and became those who were destroyed. 48 We gave the Book to Moses so that perhaps they may have guidance. 49 We made the son of Mary and his mother a miracle and settled them on a high land, quite secure and watered by a spring. 50
