The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I swear by the star when it goes down. 1 Your companion hath not gone astray, nor hath he erred. 2 Nor does he speak of (his own) desire. 3 It is only an Inspiration that is inspired. 4 something that a very mighty one has imparted to him: 5 one endowed with immense wisdom. He came forth and stood poised, 6 While he was on the uppermost horizon. 7 Then he drew near and drew closer 8 Until a space of two bow (arcs) or even less remained, 9 so (Allah) revealed to His worshiper (Gabriel) that which he revealed (to Prophet Muhammad). 10 His heart added no untruth to what he saw. 11 Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he seeth? 12 And verily he saw him yet another time 13 Near the lote-tree of the last boundary. 14 near unto the garden of promise. 15 when there covered the Lote-Tree that which covered; 16 [And withal,] the eye did not waver, nor yet did it stray: 17 For truly did he see, of the Signs of his Lord, the Greatest! 18 (Can anything as such be considered true) of al-Lat, al-Uzza, 19 And Manat, the third, the last? 20 Do sons belong to you and daughters to God? 21 That is indeed an unfair division! 22 They are but names, named by you and your fathers. Allah has not sent down any authority for them. They follow conjecture and their soul's desire, eventhough the guidance of their Lord has come to them. 23 Or shall man have whatever he fancies? 24 But unto Allah belongeth the after (life), and the former. 25
