He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ (The Prophet (Peace be upon him)) frowned and turned away, 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 Yet you pay attention 5 You pay full attention, 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 And to him who came to you eagerly 8 And he feareth 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 Nay! surely it is an admonishment. 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 (Contained) in honoured pages, 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 noble and pious. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him, 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 Then He will raise him up again when He please. 22 No indeed! Man has not accomplished His bidding. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 [how it is] that We pour down water, pouring it down abundantly; 25 Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, 26 And cause the grain to grow therein 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 Olives and dates, 29 the densely tree'd gardens, 30 And fruit and grass - 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 When the trumpet sounds, 33 upon the day when a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 his wife and his sons: 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 but others will be gloomy 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
