They will ask you about Dhu'l-Qarnayn. Say, "I will give you an account of him." 83 We established him in the land, and gave him the means to achieve all things. 84 So he followed a way 85 Until, when he reached the setting place of the sun, he found it setting in a spring of black muddy (or hot) water. And he found near it a people. We (Allah) said (by inspiration): "O Dhul-Qarnain! Either you punish them, or treat them with kindness." 86 He said: As for him who doeth wrong, we shall punish him, and then he will be brought back unto his Lord, Who will punish him with awful punishment! 87 "But whoever believes, and works righteousness,- he shall have a goodly reward, and easy will be his task as We order it by our Command." 88 Then he followed yet another path, 89 Until, when he came to the rising of the sun, he found it rising on a people for whom We had not made against it any shield. 90 Thus it was. And surely We have encompassed all that was with him in knowledge 91 He then followed (another) road 92 Until when he arrived between the two mountains, he found beside them a people who well-nigh understood not a word. 93 They said, "O Dhul-Qarnayn, indeed Gog and Magog are [great] corrupters in the land. So may we assign for you an expenditure that you might make between us and them a barrier?" 94 He said: better is that wherein my Lord hath established me; so help me with might, and I shall place between you and them a rampart. 95 Bring me ingots of iron!" Then, after he had [piled up the iron and] filled the gap between the two mountain-sides, he said: "[Light a fire and] ply your bellows!" At length, when he had made it [glow like] fire, he commanded: "Bring me molten copper which I may pour upon it." 96 Thus (Gog and Magog) could neither climb over it nor dig a hole through (the rampart). 97 He said: 'This is a mercy from my Lord. But when my Lord's promise is come, He will make it dust. The promise of my Lord is true' 98 ۞ Upon that day We shall leave them surging on one another, and the Trumpet shall be blown, and We shall gather them together, 99 On that day we shall present hell to the disbelievers, plain to view, 100 The ones whose eyes were covered from My remembrance, and who could not bear to hear Truth. 101
