Dawn (Al-Fajr)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the dawn, 1 and ten nights (of pilgrimage or the last ten days of Ramadan), 2 by the even and the odd, 3 The night as it advances, 4 Why is there an oath in this, for the intelligent? 5 Have you not seen how your Lord dealt with Ad 6 of Iram, known for their lofty columns, 7 The like of which were not created in the land? 8 And (with) Samood, who hewed out the rocks in the valley, 9 and Pharaoh, he of the tent-pegs, 10 Who all waxed exorbitant in the cities, 11 And made therein much mischief. 12 so your Lord unleashed on them the scourge of punishment: 13 for, indeed, your Sustainer is ever on the watch! 14 As for man, whenever his Lord trieth him by honouring him, and is gracious unto him, he saith: My Lord honoureth me. 15 However, when his Lord tests him by a measured amount of sustenance, he says, "God has disgraced me". 16 No! But you do not honor the orphan 17 and you do not urge one another to feed the needy, 18 And ye devour inheritance - all with greed, 19 and you love wealth with an ardent love 20 No indeed! When the earth is ground to powder, 21 and (when you find yourself) in the presence of your Lord and the rows and rows of angels, your greed for riches will certainly be of no avail to you. 22 and Gehenna is brought out, upon that day man will remember; and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He will say: "Oh, would that I had provided beforehand for my life [to come]!" 24 Wherefore on that Day none shall torment with His torment. 25 None bindeth as He then will bind. 26 O the contented soul! 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased and well-pleasing Him. 28 So enter among My servants, 29 And come into My Paradise! 30
