He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because there came to him the blind man. 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 or take heed and derive benefit from [Our] warning? 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 to a rich man, 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 And he fears, 9 Of him you are neglectful and divert your attention to another, 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 In honored books, 13 exalted and purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Noble and pious. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him, 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 and He will resurrect him whenever He wants. 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 We let the rain pour down in torrents 25 and then We cleaved the earth asunder. 26 And We made corn grow, 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 And olives and date palms, 29 and dense orchards, 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 all this as a provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening blast is sounded, 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 On that day, each one has just one issue, which is enough for him. 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; 40 Blackness will cover them. 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
