And We created you, then fashioned you, then told the angels: Fall ye prostrate before Adam! And they fell prostrate, all save Iblis, who was not of those who make prostration. 11 God asked, "What made you disobey Me?" Satan replied, "I am better than Adam, for You have created me out of fire and Adam out of clay." 12 (Allah) said: "Get thee down from this: it is not for thee to be arrogant here: get out, for thou art of the meanest (of creatures)." 13 Said [Iblis]: "Grant me a respite till the Day when all shall be raised from the dead." 14 and God replied, "You are granted respite." 15 He said: because Thou hast seduced me, I will beset for them Thy straight path. 16 then I will surely come upon them from before them and from behind them and from their right and from their left, and then You will find most of them ungrateful." 17 He said: Get out of this (state), despised, driven away; whoever of them will follow you, I will certainly fill hell with you all. 18 And said, “O Adam! You and your wife dwell in Paradise – therefore eat from it from wherever you wish, and do not approach this tree for you will become of those who transgress.” 19 Then Satan whispered to them, to reveal to them that which was hidden from them of their shameful parts. He said, 'Your Lord has only prohibited you from this tree lest you become angels, or lest you become immortals.' 20 Then he said to them on oath: "I am your sincere friend;" 21 Thus he cunningly seduced them. When they tasted the tree's fruit, their nakedness became exposed to them and they started covering themselves with the leaves of the garden. Their Lord called out to them, "Did I not forbid you to approach that tree, and did I not say to you that Satan was surely your open enemy?" 22 They said: Our Lord! We have wronged ourselves. If thou forgive us not and have not mercy on us, surely we are of the lost! 23 Allah said: get ye down, one of you an enemy unto another; and for you on the earth there shall be a habitation and provision for a season. 24 He told them that, on earth, they would live, die, and be resurrected. 25
