The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ Alif-Lam-Ra. These are the verses of the Book, and a Qur'an luminous. 1 Often will those who disbelieve wish that they had been Muslims. 2 (Muhammad), leave them alone to eat and enjoy themselves and let their desires deceive them; they will soon know (the Truth). 3 And We have not destroyed a town but there was therefor a decree known. 4 No people can outstrip the term for its destruction nor can it delay it. 5 (The unbelievers have said), "You to whom the Quran has been revealed are insane. 6 "Why do you not bring angels to us if you are of the truthful ones?" 7 We send not the angels down save with judgment, and then they would not be respited. 8 Verily We: It is We Who have sent down the Dhikr (i.e. the Quran) and surely, We will guard it (from corruption). 9 We have sent forth before you Messengers among the factions of the ancients. 10 and never yet came an apostle to them without their deriding him. 11 Thus do We make it traverse the hearts of the guilty: 12 who do not believe in it, although the way which those [evildoers] of olden times had to go has long been within their ken. 13 Though We opened to them a gate in heaven, and still they mounted through it, 14 They would say, "Our eyes have only been dazzled. Rather, we are a people affected by magic." 15
