And rehearse to them (something of) Abraham's story. 69 When he asked his father and his people: "What do you worship?" 70 They answered: We worship idols, and we remain ever devoted to them." 71 He said, 'Do they hear you when you call, 72 "Or do you good or harm?" 73 They said: nay; but we found our fathers doing in this wise. 74 Said [Abraham]: "Have you, then, ever considered what it is that you have been worshipping 75 Ye and your fathers of old? 76 Verily they are an enemy unto me, save the Lord of the worlds. 77 who created me. It is He who guides me; 78 And He Who gives me to eat and gives me to drink: 79 "And when I am ill, it is He who cures me. 80 and who will cause me to die and then will bring me back to life 81 It is He whom I expect to forgive my sins on the Day of Judgment. 82 “My Lord, bestow me the command and join me with those who deserve your proximity.” 83 and grant me an honourable reputation among posterity, 84 Make me one of the inheritors of the Garden of Bliss 85 and forgive my father, for he is one of those astray. 86 “And do not disgrace me on the day when everyone will be raised.” 87 on the Day of Judgment when neither wealth nor children will be of any benefit 88 [and when] only he [will be happy] who comes before God with a heart free of evil!" 89 And the Garden will be brought nigh for those who ward off (evil). 90 And Hell is brought near to the perverse' 91 "And it shall be said to them: 'Where are the (gods) ye worshipped- 92 besides God? Will the idols help you? Can they help themselves?" 93 Then they shall be hurled therein, they and the seduced ones. 94 and so too the hosts of Iblis, all of them. 95 There they will quarrel with one another and the erring ones will say (to their deities): 96 "By God, we were most obviously astray 97 "'When we held you as equals with the Lord of the Worlds; 98 “And none misled us but the guilty.” 99 and now we have none to intercede on our behalf, 100 and no sincere friend. 101 Would that we could have a chance to live again so that we might become believers." 102 There is certainly a sign in that, but most of them would not believe: 103 Your Lord is certainly Majestic and All-merciful. 104
