He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). 2 And what could let you know? Perhaps he (comes to hear you) to be purified. 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 For him who does not care, 5 to him thou attendest 6 And you have nothing to lose if he does not become pure. 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 exalted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 Noble and righteous. 16 Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 Then He caused him to die and be buried 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 No! Man has not yet accomplished what He commanded him. 23 Let man reflect on the food he eats. 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, 26 We make the grain grow out of it, 27 And grapes and herbage, 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 And enclosed gardens luxuriant. 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 an enjoyment for you and your flocks. 32 And when the Blast shall sound, 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his sons; 36 Everyone on that Day will have affairs to keep him occupied. 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 Laughing and full of joy, 39 Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, 40 and covered by darkness. 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
Almighty Allah's Truth.
