The Comet (Al-Taareq)
17 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Town (Al-Balad) before The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the heavens and that which comes in the night -- 1 What could let you know what the nightly comer is! 2 (It is) the star of piercing brightness; 3 That over each soul there is a guardian. 4 So let man consider of what he was created. 5 He is created from a gushing fluid 6 Issuing from (the pelvis) between the backbone and the ribs. 7 Indeed Allah is Able to return him. 8 The Day when all the secrets (deeds, prayers, fasting, etc.) will be examined (as to their truth). 9 Then man will have no power or any helper. 10 Consider the heavens, ever-revolving, 11 And the earth which splits (with the growth of trees and plants), 12 Most surely it is a decisive word, 13 And it is not a frivolity. 14 Lo! they plot a plot (against thee, O Muhammad) 15 and I too am devising a guile. 16 So give a respite to the disbelievers. Deal thou gently with them for a while. 17
