A multitude from the ancients. 39 And a company of the later peoples. 40 And those of the left hand, how wretched are those of the left hand! 41 They will find themselves in scorching wind and scalding water, 42 And shadow of black smoke, 43 [shadows] neither cooling nor soothing. 44 Verily, before that, they indulged in luxury, 45 And used to persist in the awful sin. 46 And they used to say, "When we are dead and have turned into dust and bones, will we surely be raised again?" 47 Or our fathers of yore? 48 Proclaim, "Without doubt all - the former and the latter." 49 Will be gathered together on a certain day which is predetermined. 50 Then you, you misguided ones, who deny the truth, 51 you shall eat (the fruit) of the Tree of Zakkum. 52 And fill (your) bellies with it; 53 Then drink over it of boiling water; 54 Drinking the way thirsty camels drink. 55 That will be their entertainment on the Day of Recompense! 56 It is He who created you, then why do you not affirm the truth? 57 Have you thought about [the semen] that you discharge -- 58 Did you create it, or are We the Creator? 59 We mete out death among you, and We are not to be outrun, 60 from changing your Forms and creating you (again) in (forms) that ye know not. 61 And assuredly ye have fully known the first production wherefore heed ye not? 62 See ye the seed that ye sow in the ground? 63 Is it you who cultivate it, or is it We Who develop it? 64 If We so pleased, We could turn your harvest into chaff. Then you would start lamenting, 65 That, "We have indeed been penalised!" 66 Surely, we have been deprived (of the benefits)". 67 Have you thought about the water you drink? 68 Do ye bring it down (in rain) from the cloud or do We? 69 If We will, We would make it bitter, why then do you not give thanks? 70 And have you seen the fire that you ignite? 71 Is it you who made the tree thereof to grow, or are We the Grower? 72 We have made it a memorial (of Our handiwork), and an article of comfort and convenience for the denizens of deserts. 73 Glorify, then, (O Prophet), the name of your Great Lord. 74
