The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the night when it enshrouds, 1 and the day in splendour 2 By (the mystery of) the creation of male and female;- 3 surely your striving is to diverse ends. 4 As for he who gives and fears Allah 5 And affirms goodness, 6 Surely We will ease his way unto the state of ease. 7 But he who is greedy miser and thinks himself self-sufficient. 8 And who belieth the Good, 9 For him We shall ease the way of adversity, 10 Nor will his wealth profit him when he falls headlong (into the Pit). 11 Lo! Ours it is (to give) the guidance 12 and to Us belong the Last and the First. 13 Wherefore I have warned you of Fire flaming, 14 None will [enter to] burn therein except the most wretched one. 15 Who give the lie to Truth and turn their backs. 16 He will be far away from the most pious. (The first Caliph S. Abu Bakr Siddiq) 17 And gives of his wealth that he may grow in virtue, 18 And who hath no favour from anyone to recompense. 19 only seeking the Face of his Lord the Most High; 20 And he shall soon be well-pleased. 21
